Kolkata: Highlighting a rampant ‘mafia raj’ in Kolkata, around 150 to 200 marauders recaptured government land worth Rs. 300 crores in Kolkata shortly after an eviction drive by the authorities on Sunday.

As per reports, three acres of land belonging to the port trust had been encroached illegally by a private farm with the help of land mafia in Taratala Hide Road area. Government officials on Sunday conducted an eviction drive and took possession of the area.

Hours after the move, at least 200 people armed with sticks stormed the area and recaptured the land. Despite making several calls to the local police station for help no action was initiated, said port trust official SK Dhar.

When media persons reached the spot they were brutally assaulted by the marauders.
