Kolkata: Former TMC leader Madan Mitra suffered minor injuries in an elevator mishap at the Shyambazar Metro Electrical substation on Tuesday.
According to media reports,he was reportedly stuck in the elevator for around an hour.The wire snapped leading to the de-escalation of the lift.
However, our sources say that Mitra had not been keeping well previously. He took to the 6th floor elevator to move out of the building when the incident happened. The lift was stuck for a good 40 minutes.
While staying trapped, Mitra reached out to the Metro authority, Metro Rescue team, his own party cadres, fire brigade and Lalbazar police to bail him out to safety. However, the metro rescue team and Metro authorities failed to reach on time.
Fire brigade workers rushed to the spot and tried fixing the malfunctioning lift manually. Amidst the chaos, Mitra somehow suffered a neck and hip injury.
Metro Railways Public Relations Officer was unavailable for comment.
Party cadres however smells conspiracy in this regard prior to the upcoming election.
He was visiting the sub station for an election programme.
He has been rushed to Kamarhati’s Sagar Dutta hospital for treatment. He underwent an X-Ray and is now stated to be stable.
Madan Mitra expressed concern on this freak accident and thanked God for being rescued safely. I could not spot any liftman and it was dark inside the elevator, he added.
