Kolkata: BJP chief Amit Shah reached Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s constituency Bhawanipore on Wednesday to carry on his party’s expansion drive. He visited the booth as per the ‘Booth Chalo’ drive.
Addressing his party cadres, he oozed confidence that BJP will win big in Bengal in the 2019 General elections. Assured of securing most seats from West Bengal, he said that Modi’s victory ride will pass through the state.
“Lotus will bloom in Bhawanipore too. Mamata is fearing the world’s largest political party and not the left front. But BJP doesn’t succumb to threats or gets dominated,” he said.
He expressed concerns by saying that Bengal is looming under appeasement and vote bank politics. Modi will bring an end to it soon, he assured.
BJP boasts of a legacy that saw many celebrated figures behind its establishment. Modi is trying to strive towards people’s welfare.
Shah kicked off his expansion drive from Naxalbari, West Bengal on Tuesday. He launched the BJP’s Mission Bengal from this tiny village, where the violent Naxal uprising had begin in the 1960s.
He was given a grand welcome by his fellow cadres in the Siliguri district. After convening a meeting, he treated himself to a sumptuous Bengali lunch in BJP leader Gita Mahato’s residence accompanied by state president Dilip Ghosh.
“I want you to shout so loudly that it can be heard in Kolkata,” the BJP chief said, declaring that development would defeat violence. “This is where violence started. I am happy to see the Lotus bloom here,” Mr Shah said. He will go door to door in a booth-level campaign in Naxalbari.
