Kolkata: Former ministers who lost their seats in the West Bengal Assembly polls have been given several important posts by the Bengal government on Monday.
Four heavy-weight ministers Manish Gupta, Chandrima Bhattacharya, Upendra Nath Biswas and Shankar Chakraborty have been given important departments in the ministry. Three of them, Manish Gupta, Chandrima Bhattacharya and Shankar Chakrabarty are cabinet ministers while Upendra Nath Biswas is a minister of the state.
Manish Gupta who lost his Jadavpur seat was the Minister for Power in the Government of West Bengal. He has been made the chairman of Power and Non-Conventional Energy and the chief adviser to the Chief Minister.
Chandrima Bhattacharya who was the Minister of Law, Judicial Affairs and Health in the Council of Ministers of West Bengal lost her assembly seat in Dum Dum North. She has been appointed as the chairman of West Bengal Medical Services Corporation.
Upendranath Biswas lost his seat from the Bagda constituency was the Minister for Backward Class Welfare in the Government of West Bengal. He has been appointed as the chairman of the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Finance and Development Corporation.
Shankar Chakraborty lost his seat from Balurghat constituency has been appointed as the chairman of Mackintons Burn Company, Westinghouse Saxby Farmer Ltd and Britannia Engineering. He was the Minister for cooperation in the Council of Ministers of the Government of West Bengal.
