Lorry Hits Tea Stall, Kills 5 In Raiganj

Raiganj: Five persons were killed when a goods carrying lorry hit a tea-stall on Friday morning at Raiganj in North Dinajpur.

Some residents of the area were sitting in the tea stall and having tea in the morning when a lorry lost its control and hit the stall. The accident took place at Baidera Checkpost near Itahar police station at North Dinajpur. 5 people died on the spot and 3 were injured. The names of the dead people, as per police, are Safiruddin Ahmed, Taheruddin Ahmed, Najimuddin Ahmed. The names of the other two dead are yet to be known.

All the dead and injured are residents of the Baidera Checkpost area.  The lorry was on its way from Raiganj to Malda, when it lost its control and straightaway hit the tea stall killing the 5 on the spot. The officers from the Itahar Police Station rushed to the spot along with Fire Brigade authorities. The injured have sent the injured initially to the Itahar Primary Health Centre. Then they were shifted to the Raiganj District Hospital. The dead bodies have been sent to the Raiganj District Hospital for post mortem.

On the other hand, Number 34 National Highway has been under utter chaos by the locals in protest to the accident. The lorry has been seized by officers of the Itahar Police Station. They have started investigation on the matter.
