Left Warns EC Of Mass Agitation After Attacks On Candidates


Islampur: Left parties have warned the Election Commission of India (EC) of a mass agitation throughout Bengal if the Commission fails to ensure violence-free voting from the next phase of Lok Sabha polls.

The warning comes after the Left candidates were attacked in the first phase voting on 11 April and the second phase voting today 18 April allegedly by Trinamool cadres.BJP, on the other hand, has demanded that the EC must ensure deployment of Central forces in all polling booths from the next phase onwards.

The Left parties today afternoon held over an hour-long demonstration in front of the office of state chief electoral officer (CEO) against the attack on CPI-M Raiganj Lok Sabha seat candidate Md Salim’s car on a polling premises at Islampur.

A Left delegation, led by CPI-M state secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra, then called on CEO Ariz Aftab and aired their grievances to him for onward transmission to the EC.
