Melbourne: Leander Paes and Martina Hingis of Switzerland stormed their way through to their first Australian Open mixed doubles final. They won in straight sets, 7-5 6-4, in the semi-final against Taipei’s Su-Wei Hsieh and Pablo Cuevas from Uruguay in Melbourne on Friday.
The seventh seed pair were made to work hard in the first set but it was an easy outing in the second set and won the match with an ace.
41-year-old Paes is looking for his seventh mixed doubles Grand Slam title and 15th title overall.
The Indo-Swiss pair will now face the winner of the other semi-final between India’s Sania Mirza-Bruno Soares of Brazil and French-Canadian pair of Kristina Mladenovic-Daniel Nestor which is scheduled later on Friday.
