Kolkata: The fire servicemen takes water from nearby Laldighis to douse flames in
case of fire incidents. Be it the Nandagram market fire or the Stephen Court fire.
In case of Bagri fire too, water from laldighi is being used.
BBD Bag is an important centre in Kolkata which has its historic laldighi. This
laldighi of 18th century has a size of 25 acres. This dighi was carved out to
provide pure and sweet drinking water to the Kolkata citizens. But this dighi is
now helping in dousing flames.
There are no such water bodies near the Bagri market. According to the fire
service, a small pump is being used to pump out water from this laldighi. That
water is being brought to the Bagri market using the fire tenders. This water is
being given in all around and inside the building.
Water is also being supplied from Mallikghat, lalbazar, Poddar court pumping
stations and hydrane trawler pumps.
