Howrah: The strike of the labourers of Howrah’s Shalimar Paints entered its 2nd day. They have sat in front of the factory along with their families in demand for work. They have threatened to carry on the strike until and unless their problems are solved.
Five years ago, fire broke out in the Shalimar Paints factory in Howrah. After this incident, the labourers who lost their jobs, did not get it back. The factory encountered huge losses in the fire in March 2014 .
Despite several meetings with the management, the factory could not be opened. In 2017, more meeting were held and it was decided that the factory will be opened within seven days. Initially 20 people will be taken for the job. Within 3 months, the remaining will be taken.
But the authorities did not maintain the deal. After 6 months, only 7 labourers were made to re-join. But after that, till today, none got the job back. The labourers also alleged that in the night, labourers are brought in from outside and made to work.
