New Delhi: Renewing her attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the demonetization issue, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday asked ‘log kya ATM Khayga’ (will the people eat ATM now?).
Mamata on her protest march in Delhi used very strong criticism and launched salvos after salvos at PM Modi.
“The Centre’s decision to demonetize Rs 500 and Rs 1000 is a misadventure. The decision should be roll back within 3 days or else there will be severe backlash”, said Mamata.
“The current situation prevailing under the Modi government is worse than that of the emergency days.”, said Mamata. However, Mamata Banerjee’s attempt to unify the opposition against Modi seemed to be frustrated as Bihar CM Nitish Kuamar, considered one of Mamata’s ardent supporters, sided with PM Modi over the demonetization issue.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal too joined Mamata on Thursday and vented anger against Modi calling the move draconian.
Later in the day, Mamata staged a protest in front of the RBI. She said she wanted to take note of the adequate supply of currency.Police have been deployed in the area.
