Kolkata: To speed-up rescue work during any disaster in the city, the Kolkata Police is purchasing 3-D scanners which will help them to provide the 3-D view on any place or area.
The Lalbazar officials took these machines on rent during the recent Majerhat bridge collapse to measure the height and distance of the bridge. These machines were also rented during the Posta flyover collapse in 2016.
An official from Lalbazar said, “We have understood the utility of this machine while working with it. After this, we decided to purchase the machine ourselves.” The police had taken these machines on rent from Hyderabad during the Majherhat bridge collapse. Using this machine, the holistic picture of the area of the incident will be gained.
Videos can be done using this machine too. Another official said, “Just the way we get the 3-D view when playing games, similarly we will get a clear view of the place of the incident.”
The Kolkata Police officials have already given tenders to purchase this machine. It costs 60 lakh rupees.
The NIA also purchased this machine in the past.
