Kolkata: River Ganges will turn into a hub of water sports from July 29 as Kolkata Police has taken an initiative to organize events like water skiing and gemini boat rides. The event, planned on the lines of those organized on major rivers across the world, will be organized every weekend from next Saturday.
“We have done extensive planning with the professionals who manage similar water sports in the state. There are multiple issues like safety and security of the people who participate in such sports. We are looking into every such issue before the event gets rolled out,” said Syed Waqar Raza, DC (Port) of Kolkata Police. The events will include bumpy rides, gemini boat rides and water skiing on river Hooghly. To begin with cops have zeroed in on the area on the river near Baje Kadamtala Ghat on the southern side of Babughat.
