New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Ram Nath Kovind was on Saturday appointed as the Governor of Bihar where poll is scheduled to be held later this year. On the other hand, another BJP leader named Acharya Dev Vrat was appointed as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh.
According to a press release by the Rashtrapati Bhavan, “The President has been pleased to appoint Ram Nath Kovind as the Governor of Bihar and Acherya Dev Vrat as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh.”
Kovind (69) hails from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh and was a member of Rajya Sabha between 1994 and 2006. He took over from West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi, who was holding additional charge as Bihar Governor. Bihar will be going for polls in October-November this year.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was however not pleased over the appointment of Kovind as the Governor. According to sources, Kumar objected to the appointment saying that he was not consulted before taking the decision.
On the other hand Acharya Dev Vrat will take over from Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh, who was holding additional charge of Himachal Pradesh.
