Kolkata’s rebirth on Victoria’s western wall


Kolkata:  Sutanuti, Gobindopur and Kolkata were clubbed to form the present City of Joy. It is the rich heritage of the city that will now be displayed in the form a laser show in the all popular Victoria Memorial. Along with the history, the show will try and capture the contemporaries of the present city. Facts about eminent personalities will also be a part of the laser show on the walls of one of the most important heritages of the city.The project under the assistance of the state and the Centre will come in effect within a very short span of time, added the sources.

As of now, the responsibility of the project has been vested on an organisation named RITES. The laser show until now, was shown on giant screens but according to the latest developments, the 3D show will be played on the western wall of the Victoria Memorial. The lasershow will cover a wide subjectscape starting from Dakhineshwar, Belur Math to SriRamkrishna and Vivekananda. It will also have segments on nobel laureate Amartya Sen and ‘Prince of Calcutta’, Sourav Ganguly.

The KMC will act as the nodal agency in this matter. The state and the central government will sanction funds in the project. According to KMC sources, the total estimated cost has been figured out to be 3 crore 77 thousand rupees. The Victoria authorities and the RITES’ engineers will sit and discuss the issue and get along with the project. The laser show is likely to continue for a duration of 25-30 minutes.
