Kolkata: Plastic egg is a myth. The buzz surrounding plastic eggs have been rubbished at a press meet organized on Wednesday by the state government. The state officials said that it is absolutely safe to have eggs.
On March 30, a rumour regarding plastic eggs first surfaced prompting state government to collect 38 egg samples from different markets under Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).
For carrying out the necessary laboratory tests, the samples were sent by Department of Animal Resource Development to West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences.
The state government got the lab test report on April 3. The report has clearly stated that no trace of plastic has been found in any of the samples. Atanu Ghosh MIC in charge of health, KMC too informed that no traces of plastic or any other material has been found. It is absolutely safe to have eggs.
At a public meeting on April 3 at West Midnapore’s Kharagpur, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had said that government now would sell ‘Bangla Dim’ (Bengal Eggs) from government counters.
