Kolkata: Kolkata, the city of joy witnesses the light rain on Saturday night. A light drizzle brought relief to the parched city on Saturday night. Though it raised hopes of a thundershower at the end of the day.
An anti-cyclonic circulation brewing over the Bay of Bengal is expected to trigger rain and thunderstorm in Kolkata and other Gangetic on Saturday. This system has already injected abundant moisture into the air.
Because of the moisture injected by this system over Bay of Bengal, there has been could formation. We expect light rain in isolated areas and there may be a thunderstorm, said Alipur met officials.
In fact, rainfall activity has been recorded over the city with Kolkata recording 0.2 mm of rainfall. This weather activity has been observed on account of a confluence zone which formed due to the merging of the dry northwesterly winds and moist winds from the Bay of Bengal where an anti-cyclone is persisting.
Clouding has been persisting in the neighbouring areas as well. While the rain bearing clouds have been light in nature, this rainfall activity is expected to occur during the next 24 hours. Today, during the late night or tomorrow early morning, Kolkata may witness some rain and thunderstorm. Due to the persistent cloud cover, maximums have somewhat gotten arrested which will result in a marginal reduction of these temperatures.
