Kolkata Metro To Undertake Measures To Reduce Suicide Attempts

Kolkata: Suicides in metro stations have become frequent nowadays and as a result of this the Kolkata Metro officials have decided to implement several new measures to curb this menace.

To begin with, 4 Railway Protection Forces (RPF) would be deployed at the metro railway platforms. They would be present at the entrance of the metro train and in-between platforms. Secondly, the metro railway authorities would be taking the help of a Mumbai organization to help in reducing the speed of the trains while entering the stations. To reduce the number of suicides at the Mumbai metro stations, this particular organisation’s help was taken.

The central control room’s number would be given to the general public such that people can place complaints by calling this number by giving details of persons that go missing. Measures are being taken to provide special training to the motorman and guard.

Recently, a suicide shook everyone to the core. A mother along with her 5 year old committed suicide at the Rabindra Sadan metro station. While the mother died at the spot, the 5 year old was rescued alive by metro officials from under the wheels and admitted to the hospital with serious injuries.
