Kolkata Metro Is ‘Against Moral Policing’


Kolkata: Kolkata Metro issued a statement on its Facebook page saying it was against moral policing. The post came after the incident of a couple, travelling by Kolkata Metro last evening was allegedly beaten up at the Dum Dum metro station for ‘hugging’ in the train.

Many on social media, including known people like author Taslima Nasreen, have lashed out at the incident. The incident triggered protests at Dum Dum metro station, wherein the protesters demanded the arrest of the culprits. According to reports, the couple was beaten up by some elderly people travelling in the metro.

On Tuesday, a large number of youth staged protests outside Dum Dum Metro station, demanding arrest of the people who had allegedly beaten up the couple.
No complaint has been registered yet, police said. Metro officials also said they have not received any complaint in this connection.
