Kolkata: The mercury slid by two-and-a-half degrees leaving Kolkata to feel the chill on Wednesday. The mercury dropped to 14 degree Celsius in Kolkata on Wednesday under the impact of the chilly North-Westerly wind.
According to the regional meteorological department at Alipore, the temperature could drop further in the next 48 hours. The temperature in the city stood at 15 degree Celsius on Tuesday, which is two degrees above normal.
An officer of Alipore weather office said that the North-Westerly wind has started pulling the mercury down. Though the drop in temperature in the city was not a substantial one, the chilly wind made it feel cooler than 14 degrees.
“It may continue to get chillier as the mercury will be going down by a few notches in the next two days. The lowest temperature may touch 13 degree Celsius as the chilly winter wind will continue to sweep through the city as well as several parts of South Bengal districts,” a weather officer said.
The city dwellers on Wednesday enjoyed the chilly winter morning with many of them visiting various places of interest in Kolkata, still soaking in the spirit of New Year celebration.
The Met department has also forecast that the minimum temperature in the city may drop below 13 degree Celsius within the next few days.
