Kolkata: Public transport system was immensely disrupted on the festve day of Holi. People had to spend more to commute in taxis. Buses were not plying in various routes across the city. Transport Department sought digital intervention to help the citizens in distress.
The “Path Disha” app is the immediate resort for locating buses ferrying in all routes. The app can be downloaded across all smart phones. It is expected to become functional from Wednesday. The app launch programme is set to take place in Kasba’s Transport department office with state transport secretary Alapan Bandopadhyay, State Transport Corporration’s chairman Rachpal Singh and vice chairman Swarnakamal Saha in attendance. The North and South Bengal’s counterparts are also expected to arrive.
On a primary level, 700 AC buses and ‘S’ category buses are enlisted in the app. Later, private buses, trams and other modes of transport will be inducted, sources suggest.
WBTC’s buses will soon start the service of prepaid electronic transport card, which later will be extended to other buses. A website will be launched to regulate the service.
