Kohli Gets A Song As Gift From Lata Mangeshkar

Mumbai: Watching a prolific batsman enjoying the form of his life in full flow in a Test match, gives one many highs, including the kind of emotional fulfilment one enjoys while listening to a concert, or a classic theatre or silver screen performance.

The great Lata Mangeshkar’s tribute to Virat Kohli, following the batsman’s “captain’s innings” of 235 that set up India’s series-sealing victory over England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, perhaps, is the biggest testimony to cricket’s ability to touch the heart like how soulful music does.

On Sunday, Virat Kohli struck a sublime double century before his bowlers picked up six England wickets to put the hosts on course to victory in the fourth and penultimate Test. And on Monday, Ravichandran Ashwin spun India to an innings and 36 runs victory. Ashwin ended with 12 for 167 in the match, his seventh 10-wicket haul.

However, it was Virat Kohli’s innings that set things up for the hosts — a classic knock with all the glorious strokes in the copybook. And Lata Mangeshkar gifted the Indian Test skipper with one of her soulful and evergreen songs — “Aakash ke us paar bhi”.

“Khas taur se Virat Kohli Kohli ko badhaai deti hun jinhone 235 run banaaye (special congratulations to Virat Kohli who scored 235 runs),” tweeted Mangeshkar, attaching the Youtube video of the song.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan expressed the joy he felt watching Kohli in action through a tweet as well, and so did a host of current and former players celebrities, and politicians including Union finance minister Arun Jaitley.
