KMC to come in Metro’s rescue


Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation will be coming to the rescue of the Metro Authorities over the issue of land for a setting up a Depot at Joka for the Joka-BBD Bag metro services. To provide sevice in the area, setting up of a depot is very necessary but there has been a problem with the availability of land. There was a meeting between the authorities of the Rail Vikas Nigam, Kolkata Municipal Corporation, state and District administration in this regard at Netaji Indoor stadium on Friday.

According to an official at Nabanna, many times the farmers are ready to give off their land but red tapeism slows down the flow of work. To ensure that there is no problem in land acquisition for the depot at Joka, the corporation will take charge.

The railway authorities have decided to start the metro services from Joka to Majherhat in the first phase due to which a depot needs to be constructed. The central Government has also given green signal to construct metro near Mint at Taratala.
