Kolkata: A woman was mowed down to death by a lorry at Kolkata on Tuesday.
The road mishap took place at around 2:30 in the afternoon on the Strand Bank Road, which is near the Kumartuli Ghat. A lorry of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), loaded with garbage, hit Dharma Sankar (65 years).
Dharma Shankar, a resident of the Kashinath Mitra Ghat area, was seriously injured. She suffered injuries to her right leg. Dharma was immediately rushed to the R. G. Kar Hospital. She was, later on, referred to the SSKM Hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
The police have caught the helper of the lorry. The lorry has also been seized. Both the lorry and the helper has been taken to the local police station. But the driver escaped and is still absconding.
