Kolkata: The KMC election has again been in the mud. The State Govt wanted the Municipal Elections to be held on April 18. They have even sent the message to the Election Commission of India. But as the Joint Entrance Examinations are scheduled to be held for April 18, in all probabilities, the Election Commission will not hold the Municipal Elections on the desired date.
The Election Commission has made it clear to the State Govt that if the date of the JEE is not changed, it is not possible to have the Municipal Elections. According to Nabanna sources, the State Government has not expressed any disgust regarding the issue. Mayor Shovan Chatterjee has even discussed the matter with the Municipal Affairs minister Firhad Hakim. Firhad was quoted saying that they are ready to sit for a discussion with the Election Commission regarding the issue.
On the other hand, the State Government has requested the Commission to hold the elections at Asansol, Jamuriya, Bidhannagar and Rajarhat at an immediate basis. The tenure of the Kolkata Municipality will get over in the month of June.
