Kolkata: Kolkata Mayor held a meeting with three departments on Wednesday to solve the complications that have emerged over the Kalighat skywalk.
The meeting was attended by KMC’s law department;s Mayor-in-council Baiswanor Chatterjee. Officers of three police stations – Kalighat, Bhawanipore and Tollygunge- were present. The representatives of RITES were present too.
An in-depth discussion on the problems regarding the construction of the Kalighat skywalk was discussed. The representatives of RITES used projector to put forward the problems. Before this, RITES had held a survey on the Kalighat skywalk. They sat with former mayor Sovan Chatterjee but no solution was found. So a fresh meeting was held on Wednesday.
The temple area is congested. The RITES experts found several problems from the place where the skywalk will start and the place where it will end near the temple. Since the height will be 450 metre and 10.5 in width, that will become the problem.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee had announced Kalighat skywalk after Dakshineshwar skywalk. After the announcement, the KMD and PWD jointly started its work. The state government allocated 125 crore rupess for the project. The Kalighat skywalk will be much bigger than the Dakshineshwar skywalk. A total of 6 escalators will be present. 6 normal staircase will be there too.
