Pallekele: KL Rahul continued to shatter old records and set new milestones as he became the first Indian to score seven consecutive Test fifties during the opening day of the third Sri Lanka versus India Test in Pallekele on Saturday.

Rahul, who had equalled Rahul Dravid and Gundappa Viswanath’s record by scoring six successive Test half-centuries during the second Test in Colombo, sailed past the two Indian legends with a fifty at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.

Rahul, with his latest half-century, became only the sixth cricketer to score seven successive fifties in the longer format of the game. The other five cricketers, who have achieved such a feat are Andy Flower, Sir Everton Weekes, Kumar Sangakkara, Chris Rogers and Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

Rahul started his record-equalling fifty-scoring spree during the India versus Australia Test series. While he could not feature in the opening Test of the Sri Lanka-India series due to fever, Rahul has scored two fifties in the next two games.

While he missed out on yet another chance to score a ton after he got out for 85 in the first innings of the ongoing Test, Rahul has registered his name in the record books.
