Pathan Stirs KKR To Victory Over Pune

Kolkata: Kolkata Knight Riders won by 8 wickets (with 24 balls remaining) (D/L method). Earlier, Rising Pune Supergiants won the toss against Kolkata Knight Riders and elected to bat at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

Andre Russell struck early for KKR as he got Ajinkya Rahane (2) to inside edge one back onto his stumps while attempting to play a rash shot. Shakib Al Hasan then got the wicket of Usman Khawaja (21) who found Suryakumar Yadav at the square leg boundary.

George Bailey and Saurabh Tiwary hit a boundary each of Morne Morkel as they tried to steady the RPS innings. Both Bailey and Tiwary kept the scoreboard ticking before Ankit Rajpoot sent back Saurabh Tiwary (13) who gave a regulation catch in the hands of Robin Uthappa.

Piyush Chawala got the important wicket of George Bailey (33) as this one spun under his nose and beat the outside edge as Robin Uthappa completes an easy stumping. In the 14th over a total miscommunication between skipper MS Dhoni and Irfan Pathan (7) resulted in Pathan’s runout.

After the rain delay at Eden Gardens the covers are finally off the ground and the final confirmation is that KKR will need 66 to win in 9 overs, 3 overs of powerplay, and four bowlers can bowl two overs each.

Both the KKR openers were back in the hut in first over as R Ashwin struck twice, first inviting Robin Uthappa (4) down the track and deceiving him with the flight as MS Dhoni completed a sharp stumping. Gautam Gambhir (0) was trapped in front of the wicket as the ball skidded off the deck and caught him in the crease. Ashok Dinda was then hit for two boundaries off the second over by Pathan and Pandey. R Ashwin was taken to the cleaners in the next over as Y Pathan clobbered him for two 6’s and two 4’s.

M Ashwin was hit for a four and six in the 4th over as KKR won the match by 8 wickets.
