Kerala’s Favourite ‘Karimeen Fish’ On Bengali Plate Soon

Kolkata: Within eight to nine months, Bengalis in the state would be getting to enjoy a new tasty fish: karimeen. This favourite of Kerala is going to be cultivated in Haldia with the help of the Fisheries Department.

The fishes are going to be cultivated by fisherwomen of Haldia block, in Purba Medinipur district. The Fisheries Department has trained about 50 fisherwomen for one-and-a-half months at one of its farms.Though cultivated in sweet water in Kerala, this fish can also thrive in brackish water. Hence these fishes would be cultivated in farms in the coastal regions of Haldia block.
