Kerala Bans Plastic National Flags


Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has banned the production and sale of plastic based national flags. The government has issued directions to all heads of departments to make sure that national flag is used in a manner as prescribed in National flag code.

The National flag code says that national flags made of wool, cotton,khadi and silk should be used and public have been allowed to use paper made national flags on special occasions.

The move is part of making the state free of Plastic. Local bodies in the state have slowly started introducing green protocol in public functions by completely avoiding use of disposables and plastic materials.

The state budget had imposed a 20% tax on disposables made of plastic.
