Nairobi: The Kenyan military claimed to have killed 34 Islamic militants of Al-Shabab.

Military spokesman Col David Obonyo said on Sunday that 21 militants were killed in fighting in the southern city of Afmadow on Saturday. He said two Kenyan soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb in the incident.

Al-Shabab, according to SITE Intelligence Group which monitors Jihadi groups, says it killed dozens of Kenyan soldiers and captured two of them in the attack, but they have made exaggerated claims in the past.

Col. Obonyo said the Kenyan soldiers killed another 13 militants on Sunday near Ras Kamboni in southern Somalia.

Kenya is among five countries contributing troops to an African Union force that is bolstering Somalia’s government against al-Shabab’s insurgency.
