Maidstone: A pedestrian bridge over a motorway has collapsed onto a lorry in Kent.
The incident between Junction 3 and 4 of the M20, in the Borough Green area, happened earlier on Saturday. It is believed that one person has been injured but it is not known how serious their condition is. The container of a lorry was ripped off as a result of the collapse and debris was seen covering multiple lanes.
Witnesses reports are also suggesting that another vehicle could have been damaged during the incident. Kalpana Fitzpatrick, who had been driving on the M20, told Sky News: ‘What we can see is two trucks squashed by this bridge and emergency services are at the scene. From what I can tell they are treating one person. ‘The side I’m on, the bridge is still hanging, and obviously the traffic has been stopped. It’s quite shocking.’
Emergency services are still at the scene with an air ambulance also spotted flying overhead. Motorists have been told to expect severe delays as the road is now closed in both directions.
