Kazi Nazrul Islam’s Statue Goes Missing

Asansol: The year 2018 saw the breaking or heckling of statues of legends and monks. It gets repeated in 2019 too. The incident took place at Asansol’s Kulti’s Niyamatpur’s New road crossing’s Nazrul Udyan. It is being alleged that drunk miscreants stole the statue of Kazi Nazrul Islam at night. The Kulti police have started at investigation.

According to the locals, this statue was established in 1998 commemorating the 100th birth year of Kazi Nazrul Islam. Surrounding the statue, a garden or udyan was made under the leadership of the then Kulti municipality. The udyan is looked after by Niyamatpur truck owners’ association.

According to the truck owners’ association, their workers visit it everyday for cleaning the garden. Similarly they went on Wednesday morning when they were shocked to find the statue missing. The Kulti police station was informed immediately.

The police assumes primarily that the work has been done by drunk miscreants because alcohol bottles and plastic glass were found in the site.
