Katsumi in, Bagan looks for local footballers

Kolkata:After getting a green signal from the Haitian international Sony Norde, Mohun Bagan supporter will have another reason to cheer about as Katsumi Yusa is expected to sign a two-year extension. After as series of mails, the news was confirmed from the Bagan sources.The former ONGC midfielder played an important role in Mohun Bagan’s maiden I-League triumph as he scored seven and assisted numerous goals.“The player is expected to sign an extension by the end of this week,” informed a source close to the development.

On the other hand, it was heard that Balwant Singh might wear the East Bengal colours for the upcoming season. But a Bagan official who wanted not to disclose his name has washed away such speculation and has said that Bagan will go all out to retain the Punjab striker. In fact he said that Bagan supporters might even see a Balwant-Sunil upfront combination.On the other hand, when Balwant Singh was contacted by Kolkata24x7, he said that he was in Punjab. No team or club has approached him for the upcoming season. Infact he also said that his chances of staying in Bagan stands at almost 95%.

The Bagan officials have already roped in Defender Raju Gaikwad. They are looking forward to get the likes of Uga Okpara as he has the experience of playing in a Kolkata club. Arnab Das Sharma and Ashim Dey (Aryan) has also been approached by Mohun Bagan as per sources. Basanta Singh (MSC) has also been in talks with the green and maroons. Abhishek Das and Subodh Kumar who have just finished their contracts with the Red and Golds have been in talks with MB also.
