New Delhi: The Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police has issued a statement apprising of the current situation in Kasganj which was hit by communal clashes on Friday.
“Situation in Kasganj is under control. No incidents have taken place in the last few hours. A number of people were arrested, patrolling has been intensified, and priority is to maintain law and order,” said Singh.
On Friday, clashes broke out in Kasganj between two groups during a Tiranga Rally which resulted in the death of a 22-year old youth while another youth was seriously injured following which police arrested 49 people while senior police officers from Western UP were rushed to the troubled town.
Two buses were torched by miscreants and shops and other properties were vandalized as protests over the teenager’s death broke out across the district. The Kasganj district administration had imposed Section 144 in the trouble-hit area on Friday night and had ordered the closure of schools from Class 1 to Class 8 in view of the communal tension.
Section 144 has been imposed in the entire precinct with adequate police personnel keeping a tight vigil on the situation. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath appealed for calm between both communities and directed the district police to take strict action against miscreants causing trouble in the area.
