Kasba Murder: Teens Sent To 14 Days Police Custody


Kolkata: Two teenagers, one of whom passed the Higher Secondary board examination this year, were arrested on Sunday and sent to the 14 days police custody on Monday on suspicion of their involvement in the murder of Sheila Chowdhury.

Shambhu Kayal, a student who works part-time as a cleaner in the apartment building, had been interrogated at Kasba police station by the joint commissioner of police (crime), Praveen Tripathi, and several senior officers.

Based on Shambhu’s statement, the police picked up a 15-year-old who works with him. The boy is the son of Sheila’s former domestic help.

According to the preliminary findings of the investigation, Sheila was murdered for gain. The police have found out that Rs 7,000 in cash was stolen from an almirah in her apartment. The intruders banged her head against a wall and smothered her face with a pillow, the police said.
