Chennai: Indian batsman Karun Nair on Monday registered his first ton as the hosts edged towards England’s first innings total in the 5th Test in Chennai.
Carrying on from his overnight score of 71, the Karnataka cricketer looked assured in the morning session and didn’t put a foot wrong. The 25-year-old’s innings included seven fours and a six.
Nair made his Test debut in the Mohali Test. Though India won the match on the fourth day, Nair scored just 4. He disappointed again in Mumbai, scoring just 13 runs.
This innings in Chennai will boost Nair’s confidence, especially since he arrived at the crease when India had lost Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli.
On Sunday, Nair and KL Rahul (199) led India’s reply to England’s 477 first innings total with a 161-run stand.
