PUNE: Kanhaiya Kumar,President of JNU Student’s Union alleged that he was attacked inside Jet Airways on Sunday.
Kanhaiya was on his way to address an event in Pune. Kanhaiya and Manas Deka, the man who allegedly assaulted him, were both offloaded in Mumbai from a Jet Airways flight bound for Pune.
Kanhaiya mentions in his tweet,”Yet again, this time inside the aircraft, a man tries to strangulate me,” Kanhaiya tweeted on Sunday. “Is assault the only tool to fight dissent? “ He also questioned the airline’s policy of deplaning a person who has been assaulted and isn’t the assaulter.
Mumbai police said they’ve detained one person in connection with the incident on the plane.
One of Kanhaiya’s associates confirmed that the student leader was deplaned along with a co-passenger and was at the police station to file an FIR.
However, CP (Law and order) Deven Bharti said that a fight broke between two groups and Kanhaiya was part of one. The Sahar police are in the process of registering cross complaints from both parties.
“Prima facie the fight broke over seating onboard flight. Three from Kumar’s side and the other party had an argument. The exact matter will be confirmed after recording individual statements,” said Bharti.
Jet Airways, the airline in which he was travelling, issued a statement saying, ‘Some guests on board this morning’s Jet Airways flight 9W 618 Mumbai to Pune have been off loaded at Mumbai airport in the interest of operational safety’.
