Kamal Nath Fulfills Promise, Waives Off Farm Loans

Bhopal: In a big decision, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath on Monday waived off loans taken by farmers to the tune of Rs 2 lakh each within hours of taking the oath. As per a CMO official, the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister has signed the state farmers’ loan waiver file.

During campaigning ahead of Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections 2018, Congress president Rahul Gandhi had assured farmers to write off their loans within 10 days of coming to power.
Notably, while addressing a press conference on Friday on the Supreme Court verdict on the Rafale deal, Rahul Gandhi had said: “There has been a theft of Rs. 30,000 crore and farmers, remember that in Chattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, your loan is going to be waived….This money that has been taken by thieves is your money.”

The 72-year-old Kamal Nath, the former union minister, was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Anandiben Patel at a ceremony held at the Jambori Maidan earlier today.

Nath, who represented Chhindwara for nine terms in the Lok Sabha, took the oath on a day the Delhi High Court convicted Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
