Kalimpong Grenade Attack: Police Arrested Bijoy Chetri & Ashok Rai


Kalimpong: The Kalimpong police on Wednesday morning arrested GJM members Bijoy Chetri and Ashok Rai in connection with the grenade attack in the Kalimpong police station.

The Kalimpong police arrested both the alleged attackers from Sevak. The Police informed that both of them came to the spot in their bikes. The Kaliompong police continued their search operation for other attackers.

The incident took place on 19th August (Saturday) and a massive manhunt was also launched on Sunday to track those persons behind the grenade blast in Kalimpong police station that left a civic police volunteer dead and two others injured even as the police is suspecting the hand of the GJM behind the attack.

Civic volunteer Rakesh Raut died and a Home Guard and a Seema Sashatra Bal (SSB) trooper were injured in a blast outside Kalimpong police station on Saturday night.

As per Police, all police stations in the northern West Bengal hills was put on ‘high alert’ and counter-insurgency strategies were being followed after the major blasts in Darjeeling and Kalimpong.
