Update: As many as 74 passengers were injured in the derailment Of Kaifiyat Express. However, the railways said 25 persons were injured in the incident and that the dumper did not belong to them.
Lucknow: Kaifiyat Express, which plies between Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, derailed near Auraiya around 2.30 AM on August 23.
According to initial reports, 10 bogies along with the engine of the train have been derailed. A medical train and a relief train has been dispatched from Allahabad to the accident site.
UK Singh, chief operating manager, Northern Central Railways, said that there are no reports of casualties so far, however, reports indicate towards several people being injured in the accident. “No information on casualties, however, injuries would be there,” said UK Singh.
Cops along with ambulances, for rescue and relief operations, have reached the accident spot. According to sources, collision with a dumper being speculated as the reason for the derailment. The collision occurred near the crossing gate no. 14. The collision has impacted the plying of trains on Howrah route.
