Jute industry dwindles as mills seized operation

Barrackpore: Lending a severe blow to the rickety jute industry in Bengal, Prabartak jute mill at Kamarhati area seized operation on Tuesday. The jobless mill workers took to the street on Tuesday and Wednesday protesting the closure.

The authorities blamed a dwindling production and plummeting market for the decision. On the other hand victorious TMC councilor Bimal Saha of ward nu-24 said that the authorities enforced the decision taking advantage of the hectic day as administration was busy with the results.

The administration will negotiate with the mill authorities, he confirmed. No comments have been reported from the mill owners.
