Update: Karnan might have crossed Indian border and is believed to be ‘hiding’ in Nepal or Bangladesh.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, Justice Karnan’s legal team is planning to approach President Pranab Mukherjee to seek relief.
“We are preparing for the next level of legal battle and he needs to be in hiding until that time,” W Peter Ramesh Kumar, an advocate at Madras high court told.
Chennai: Justice C S Karnan, sentenced to six months for contempt of court, likely to move Supreme Court on Thursday seeking recall of the conviction charges pressed against him.
He has not been taken to custody yet. In his plea he says that the Supreme Court had erred by convicting him without framing charge.
Justice Karnan has been keeping the police teams of Kolkata, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu on toes since his location remains untraceable.
The Calcutta High Court judge flew to Chennai on Tuesday morning, hours before the Supreme Court punished him for contempt.
The judge checked out of a state guest house on Wednesday, reportedly without clearing his bills, and was to travel to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh to visit a temple in Srikalahasti. But it is not confirmed whether he did make the trip.The West Bengal police team, led by Surajit Kar Purkayastha, DGP, Home Guards, reached Chennai on Wednesday. They held discussions with the TN counterparts and left for Andhra only to come empty-handed.
Those close to him suggest he wants to meet President Pranab Mukherjee.
