Journo Bashing: Press Protest Takes the Road


Kolkata: Media persons on Monday under the banner of Kolkata Press Club took the streets to protest the brutal assault on journalists during the October 3 civic body polls in West bengal’s Bidhannagar, Bali and Asansol.

Hundreds of journalist from print and electronic media took out a protest march from Kolkata Press Club around 03:00 pm and demanded punishment to the perpetrators.

At least 21 journalists were brutally thrashed, many of whom are under treatment for severe injuries, their equipments broken allegedly by Trinamool goons on Saturday.

The police after a huge outcry in a bid to save face, arrested three people on Monday but none of the influential figure visible clearly in the TV footages were in the list.

The opposition parties like BJP and CPM has termed the election a farce and demanded re-poll. The EC following the outcry suspended the vote counting for an indefinite period.

On the other hand Trinamool Congress under the leadership of state education minister Partha Chatterjee staged a protest terming the suspension as unconstitutional.
