Journalist Booked For ‘Derogatory’ WhatsApp Video Depicting PM

Lucknow: Afgan Soni, a local journalist has shared a video and the video makes controversy. The moment the video was shared by the journalist in a whats app group, the members of the group took offence to it and immediately demanded that the SSP take action against the scribe.

Even though Afgan Soni, the journalist, stated that it was a joke and immediately apologised, it didn’t seem to affect the rage the members of the group felt at the perceived insult to PM Modi.

A case has been registered against a local journalist for posting a “derogatory video against Prime Minister Narendra Modi” on the official WhatsApp group of Meerut SSP Manzil Saini.

The journo has stated that it should have been clear to all individuals that the video was nothing but “harmless satire”.

The video showed the prime minister asking a question regarding “acche din” and getting an answer from a herd of sheep, reports.

Civil Lines police station SHO Ambresh Singh told TOI, “Afgan Soni has been booked under Section 500 (defamation) of the IPC and Section 66 (computer-related offences) of IT Act.”

Taken aback by the action, Soni told , “In the past, several people have posted derogatory pictures and videos on the SSP’s WhatsApp group, but no action was taken against them. I am being targeted because of my faith. I did not make the video, I just mistakenly shared it. Many people have been posting this particular clipping on various social media platforms. Even they should face action.”
