Journalist arrested for leaking Govt. documents


New Delhi: A former journalist Shantanu Saikia who operates a web site carrying news of the petroleum industry, was among the seven arrested for leaking confidential government document to certain private consultant and energy companies.

Seven persons have been arrested so far. Brothers Rakesh Kumar and Lalta Prasad, and the driver of a vehicle Raj Kumar Chaubey were arrested on 17 February. The two brothers were part of the multi-tasking staff (MTS) at the ministry but had stopped working there since 2012.

Metis Business Solutions Pvt Ltd CEO Prayas Jain was also detained late last night and questioned in connection with the incident. He was later arrested.

The police on Friday took the accused to Shastri Bhavan to recreate the scene of crime. The Forensic department will be examining the lock of Room Number 201.

The accused have been produced at the Patiala House court on Friday.
