Kolkata: Former Press Club secretary and Indian Journalists’ Association (IJA) general secretary Anindya Sengupta passed away this morning at a city hospital. He was suffering from advance stage of lung cancer. Anindya, 53, is survived by his wife and daughter.
Anindya briefly worked for Orissa Times in Bhubaneswar before returning home due to ill health. Anindya worked for Kolkata’s two biggest dailies, The Telegraph and before that The Statesman. He was the secretary of Press Club, Kolkata, for a long time before quitting the post two years back.
Anindya was elected general secretary of 96-year-old institution Indian Journalists’ Association (IJA) two years back and was set for the third and final term but fate had other ideas.
Anindya was known for his coverage of Left politics. A very good writer and speaker, Anindya’s untimely demise has left a huge void in journalism in Bengal.
