Mumbai: According to latest news report, Jio is now planning to enter the laptop market too. According to report, Ambani-led Reliance Jio is in talks with US leading chipmaker Qualcomm for laptops that will run on Windows 10 along with in-built cellular connections. Qualcomm is already powering Jio’s smart feature phone-JioPhone.
The laptop will run on Windows 10 making the device faster and integration of AI-based Microsoft assistant Cortana. Windows 10 has also brought back the start menu which Windows 8 had eliminated. There is also a new central notification center, ability to create multiple desktops and more.
“We have talked to Jio. They could take the device and bundle it with data and content,” Miguel Nunes, senior director of product management at Qualcomm Technologies, told ET. The budget 4G laptop will come bundled with a Jio data pack. The Jio laptops will come with in-built 4G connectivity. This means that user will access internet on the laptop without depending on the Wi-Fi or any data card.
Going by the report it seems that like JioPhone, Jio is once again heavily depending on its 4G data for its laptops to work. JioPhone clicked because of its smart features and cheap voice calling plans at only Rs 49. It is very important for laptops to pack in lot more than just data benefits to fight against leading laptop companies like Dell, Lenovo, HP or Acer.
