New Delhi: India secures release of Jesuit priest father Prem Kumar after 8 months captivity in Afghanistan.

Alexis Prem Kumar was abducted on 2 June 2014. he hails from Tamil Nadu state in southern India, was abducted from a school for refugees that he was visiting in the village of Sohadat, about 25 kilometers (15 miles) from the provincial capital city, Herat. Kumar was country director in Afghanistan for Jesuit Refugee Services, an educational charity working with displaced and impoverished communities in Afghanistan. He has been working in Afghanistan since 2011.

Sharing the news, the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi said,”delighted at securing the release of Indian Jesuit priest Father Alexis Prem Kumar from captivity in Afghanistan.
