Jessop Owner Pawan Kumar Ruia Sent To 14 Day CID Custody

Kolkata: A Barrackpore court on Sunday sent Ruia Group Chairman and Jessop owner, Pawan Kumar Ruia to 14-day CID custody in connection with a complaint of theft lodged by Railways. In its complaint, the Railways had accused Ruia of stealing equipment from Ruia’s factory near Kolkata. Ruia was arrested from his Delhi residence on Saturday, by a team of West Bengal CID officials. “He was booked under section 420, 406, 409 of IPC,” DIG (CID) B L Meena told The Indian Express. According to sources he was picked up from his home in Hazrat Nizamuddin, Delhi.

Earlier, Ruia ignored four summons of the CID since October 26 in connection with investigations into repeated mysterious fires at his company’s Jessop factory in Dum Dum, Kolkata following which he was arrested. In October, the Calcutta High Court had refused to quash an FIR against him. Ruia had moved the court saying that he was not Jessop’s chairman and insisted that he was “neither the director nor a shareholder, or an occupier of Jessop and Co Ltd (JCL) or any of its premises”.
