JD(U) MLA arrested for bombing court premises


Patna:JD(U) MLA Sunil Pandey was arrested on Saturday in connection with the escape of a bomb blast accused from a court in Ara in January. He was arrested from the office of the Superintendent of Police whom he had gone to meet.

The MLA from Tarari in Bhojpur district was arrested on the basis of a confessional statement made by the main accused in Ara bomb blast case, Lambu Sharma to Delhi Police that his escape was facilitated from the judicial custody by the legislator.

Lambu Sharma had escaped along with another prisoner Akhilesh Upadhay while being produced in Ara Court on January 23, 2015 following an explosion which was triggered by a human bomb. Two persons were killed in the incident and around two dozen people injured.

Upadhyaya was arrested soon while sharma remained absconding and was arrested by a joint force of Bihar and Delhi Police on June 24 from New Delhi and was brought back to Ara jail.

The MLA also faces many cases of kidnapping and extortion and is the second year JDU MLA to be arrested by police.
